This thesis investigates the viability of Social Impact Bonds (SIBs) in funding educational
equity initiatives in Germany, with a focus on ArbeiterKind.de, an NGO addressing
disparities in educational success between children from worker and academic households.
SIBs, emerging in the UK in 2010 as pay-for-success financial tools, link private investment
to public goals, funding social interventions with returns contingent on success. This study
explores SIBs' adaptability in education, assessing their feasibility and strategic potential for
ArbeiterKind.de's specific challenges. Despite SIBs' promises, the thesis questions the
suitability of ArbeiterKind.de’s intervention model for SIBs, highlighting the complexity of
successfully implementing such a financing mechanism.
