Gender discrimination in sports media is documented at various levels, covering not only personal and professional aspects but also relational, organizational and social aspects. Many international works increasingly address the topic mentioned above, albeit from different perspectives. As the issue addressed in this dissertation has not yet been explored in Portugal, it is essential that we understand the role that women play in sports journalism to combat the gender disparities that prevail in various professional fields, namely in the media. The aim is, therefore, to address concerns regarding the place and status of women in sports editorials, revealing the various gender problems that are encountered in journalistic practice. The numerical representation of sports journalists will be disclosed throughout this process, together with information about the constraints or difficulties they face daily in newsrooms (discrimination, lack of opportunities, etc) and the topics assigned to them. Through content analysis and interviews with different female figures, it became evident that these professionals face a series of challenges, as professional reporters and women.
