A heterogeneidade do território da Trafaria, fragmentado em comunidades independentes com vida própria – ou ‘Trafarias’ –, remete para um mapa com uma composição organicamente cinematográfica, à espera de ser estudado pela especificidade do cinema – a montagem. A partir do material bruto filmado (com vista à produção de um documentário), estas comunidades foram montadas uma a uma – espaço a espaço –, formando um mapa cinematográfico da Trafaria. Esta metodologia pretendeu estudar o potencial da montagem enquanto instrumento de contra-mapeamento do território, testando a hipotética possibilidade de (re)configurar a percepção de um espaço, ao viajar cinematograficamente nele por via da montagem.
The heterogeneity of Trafaria’s territory, fragmented into independent communities with lives of their own – or ‘Trafarias’ –, alludes to a map with an organically cinematic composition, awaiting to be studied by the specificity of cinema – montage. With the material from the raw footage (aimed at producing a documentary), these communities were edited one by one – space by space –, forming a cinematic map of Trafaria. This methodology intended to study the potential of montage as an instrument for counter-mapping the territory, thus testing the hypothetical possibility of (re)configuring the perception of a space by cinematically travelling through it via montage.
