Resumo(s)
The aviation industry has long been in the spotlight for being a major contributor to climate
change. This work explores the effectiveness of the two most important trading schemes that
tackle European aviation emissions, the EU ETS and CORSIA. Their unique characteristics and
scope are being compared. The results indicate that while CORSIA has great potential as the
first global agreement to deal with aviation emissions, the EU ETS is still more stringent albeit
limited to the EEA. Both measures fail to account for a significant share of emissions and further
action is needed. Decarbonizing the aviation sector requires a mix of different solutions and
technologies, especially the development of SAF.
