Resumo(s)
Corporate accelerator programs are an important part of the start-up ecosystem.
Before joining, start-ups are evaluated. In this evaluation process, evaluators are
confronted with uncertainty and limited resources and will use heuristics which
can result in biased decisions. Heuristics are mental shortcuts that offer a cost efficient decision alternative based on cues – pieces of information by which a
hidden quality can be inferred. This study investigates what such heuristics could
be, tests them on 96 start-up evaluations, and finds that companies whose founders
have names from regions where the parent company of the accelerator is active
receive a more positive evaluation.
