Resumo(s)
Gaming is one of the most prospective use cases for Web3. However, the short-lived hype
around Web3 games in 2021 has highlighted that the current implementation of Web3 is not
sufficiently mature. This thesis examines the history of the gaming industry and conducts a
multiple case study analysis of in-game economies and Real Money Trading in Web2 games to
identify potential opportunities and pitfalls for Web3 gaming. Moreover, based on the synthesis
of the findings of this work, this thesis proposes a new composition for the gaming industry’s
value chain that revolves around an active and contributing player base.
