During a 3 month project with Bangladesh’s largest national sewing thread manufacturing
company, Simtex Industries Limited, a project was conducted on improving the company’s
production efficiency and maximizing its capacity and resources utilized.
This thesis portrays the background of the industry and the company, its current productivity,
bottlenecks in the process cycle, and the root cause analysis behind these variables that are
negatively impacting the company’s operational performance. Based on these observed data,
action plans with preventive measures have been proposed, developed, and implemented, to
tackle these poor performing variables, and enhance the company’s operational performance.
Subsequently, the economic condition and strengths and weaknesses of the industry and other
competitors have also been surveyed.
It should be noted that due to the constricted timeframe period, and the limitations from the
University regarding page limit of the project, along with the limited resources, like manpower,
time and funds, that the company was ready to invest for the project, there were many
challenges and limitations in the project and a full detailed study was not possible to conduct.
Projects like these require a longer timeframe of up to a year for significantly large and effective
results, however, within the provided timeframe for the project, it was still possible to observe
some changes from the strategies of action plan provided. A longer timeframe of observation
would make it more suitable for users to comprehend the actual effectiveness of the
recommendations proposed.
