Resumo(s)
The aim of this paper is to better understand the role of the software product manager (SPM) in
agile environments. Four aspects are analyzed: their educational and professional background
as well as the relevant hard and soft skills. The results were reached by interviewing a diverse
group of 22 SPMs. The five skills which were identified as essential, include hard skills as well
as inter- and intrapersonal soft skills. Furthermore, there was found a discrepancy between the
required hard skills and the educational and professional background of interviewees with an
underrepresentation of data analytics & synthesis skills.
