The present report focuses on the Supervised Teaching Practice (STP) of Portuguese, held in the 2022/2023 school year at the Sebastião e Silva School in Oeiras. The subject of this report concerns the idea of a literary map, as a reading aid where characters and readers embark themselves along the same journey. The majority of the materials planned for the Portuguese discipline feature travelling as a theme, whether they refer to the everyday life of the characters, their dreams of setting off on a quest, a way of escaping their problems or a kind of patriotic exaltation. Given that so much is about travelling, we wonder what journeys are we taking our students on and how to go about it. The objectivity in which we work with texts in the classroom and the comprehension requirements proposed by the textbooks leave little room to work with regarding student's imagination and creativity and, as a result, they have difficulty writing their own texts. Building bridges between characters and readers means enlivening reading, bringing it closer to the reader. But it also implies the realisation that in our daily lives there is creative material that can be used in the writing we are asked to do. This report aims to promote and contribute to new dynamics in the classroom, considering all of the challenges modern schooling has to address.
