A Orquestra Jovem da União Europeia e a construção da identidade europeia

Abstract

Esta dissertação aprofunda o impacto da Orquestra Jovem da União Europeia (EUYO) no espaço europeu, compreendendo a sua relação com a integração europeia, a promoção da identidade europeia e a construção de um sentimento de pertença à União Europeia entre os seus participantes. A partir de um enquadramento teórico construtivista, a pesquisa demonstra que a Orquestra Jovem da União Europeia foi fundada numa época de mudança de perspetiva das instituições europeias sobre o seu papel relativamente à Cultura, contribuindo para o processo de integração europeia, para o fortalecimento da identidade europeia e atua como embaixadora cultural decisiva da União Europeia. A investigação analisa as perspetivas dos participantes da EUYO, por meio de um questionário fechado. Os resultados demonstraram que a Orquestra Jovem da União Europeia desempenha um papel significativo na promoção da identidade europeia, que cria um sentimento de pertença à União Europeia, que funciona como um símbolo do projeto europeu e desenvolve um intercâmbio cultural importante para jovens no contexto europeu. Os resultados desta dissertação ampliam a literatura na área da integração europeia, identidade e no papel que a cultura poderá desempenhar para o futuro da União Europeia e a sua coesão, bem como demonstram uma visão aprofundada do papel da EUYO para o projeto europeu e do seu contributo de mais de 40 anos de atividade.

This disseration focus on the impact of the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) in the European field, regarding its relationship with European integration, the promotion of European identity and the development of a sense of belonging to the European Union among its participants. Using a constructivist theoretical framework, the research shows that the European Union Youth Orchestra was founded at a time of changes of the perspectives of the European institutions on their role regarding the Culture field, which contributed to the process of European integration, to the strengthening European identity and acts as a decisive cultural ambassador for the European Union. The investigation analyses the opinions of the EUYO participants, through a closed questionnaire. The results showed that the European Union Youth Orchestra plays a significant part in promoting European identity, creating a sense of belonging to the European Union, functioning as a symbol of the European project and developing an important cultural exchange for young people within the European context. The results of this dissertation extend the literature in the areas of European integration, identity and the role that culture can play for the future of the European Union and its cohesion. This research demonstrates an in-depth view of EUYO's role for the European project and its contribution over 40 years of activity.
