O retorno do debate público sobre a influência da Inteligência Artificial na sociedade deu-se depois de plataformas geradoras de imagens, como o DALL-E, terem questionado o estado das Artes Visuais no século XXI. Esta investigação visa saber sob que condições se aplica o estatuto de «arte» e de «artista» quando sistemas IA estão envolvidos na produção. A pesquisa recai tanto sobre agentes IA que trabalham em colaboração com humanos, quanto em agentes artificiais autónomos. Por forma a entender se análise teórica daquilo que é a arte, a criatividade e o artista corresponde às perspetivas dos agentes humanos, foram entrevistados seis artistas nacionais e internacionais, que refletem sobre estes avanços tecnológicos. A possibilidade de observar a análise dos conceitos em discussão de duas perspetivas – teórica e de opinião – espelha a contraposição existente na sociedade sobre a atribuição dos títulos em causa. Dentro da própria comunidade artística é possível ver uma divergência de opiniões, onde há quem declare a IA como “inerte” e “muito conservadora”, com capacidade de apenas “reproduzir o passado”, e quem acredite que não devemos “continuar a pensar que somos a exceção”, pois a aceitação de que as “máquinas e outros seres vivos podem fazer arte é fundamental para a evolução do ser humano e da sua cultura”.
The return of public debate about the influence of Artificial Intelligence on society came after image-generating platforms, such as DALL-E, questioned the status of Visual Arts in the 21st century. This research aims to find out under what conditions the status of «art» and «artist» applies when AI systems are involved in production. The research falls on both AI agents working in collaboration with humans, and autonomous artificial agents. In order to understand if the theoretical analysis of what is art, creativity and the artist corresponds to the perspectives of human agents, six national and international artists reflecting on these technological advances were interviewed. The possibility of observing the analysis of the concepts under discussion from two perspectives - theoretical and opinion - mirrors the opposition existing in society regarding the attribution of the titles in question. Within the artistic community itself, it is possible to see a divergence of opinions, where there are those who declare AI as “inert” and “very conservative”, with the capacity to only “reproduce the past”, and those who believe that we should not “continue to think we are the exception”, because the acceptance that “machines and other living beings can make art is fundamental for the evolution of the human being and its culture”.
