A cobertura do Mundial do Catar no Telejornal da RTP 1

Abstract

Intitulado “A cobertura do Mundial do Catar no Telejornal da RTP 1”, o presente relatório de estágio tem como objetivo analisar como foi feita a cobertura da maior competição de futebol a nível mundial e qual o seu espaço na agenda mediática de uma estação televisiva de serviço público. Para chegar ao objetivo suprarreferido foi utilizada uma metodologia mista: entrevista a três jornalistas enviados para o Catar, entre os quais João Domingues, João Miguel Nunes e Manuel Fernandes Silva, e uma análise de conteúdo a todas as peças relacionadas com a competição mundial que foram para o ar durante o decorrer do Telejornal da RTP 1. Foram contabilizadas, no total, 153 peças jornalísticas, nas quais foram reconhecidas 140 peças inseridas na temática de Desporto. Como seria expectável, por se tratar de um evento desportivo, a maioria dos assuntos relacionados com o mesmo têm um carácter desportivo. Porém, não era esperado um número tão grande, uma vez que quando se soube que o Catar seria o país responsável por organizar o Mundial gerou-se muita polémica devido ao facto de o país em questão não respeitar, na íntegra, os direitos humanos. Quando se relacionaram as três entrevistas, foi notório que os jornalistas tiveram em atenção as polémicas que estavam em torno do Catar, e procuraram dar espaço a esses assuntos na agenda pública, não esquecendo que estavam ali para mostrar o futebol.

Entitled "The coverage of the World Cup in Qatar on RTP 1 News", this internship report aims to analyze how the coverage of the biggest soccer competition in the world was made and what was its space in the media agenda of a public service television station. To reach the above mentioned objective a mixed methodology was used: interview to three journalists sent to Qatar, among them João Domingues, João Miguel Nunes and Manuel Fernandes Silva, and a content analysis to all the pieces related to the world competition that were aired during the course of RTP 1's Telejornal. A total of 153 journalistic pieces were counted, in which 140 pieces were recognized as having a Sports thematic. As expected, since this is a sports event, most of the subjects related to it have a sports nature, but such a large number was not expected, since when it was known that Qatar would be the country responsible for organizing the World Cup, much controversy was generated due to the fact that the country in question did not fully respect human rights. When relating the three interviews, it was noticeable that both journalists paid attention to the controversies that were surrounding Qatar, and tried to give space to these subjects in the public agenda without forgetting that they were there to show soccer.
