O avanço e a revolução tecnológica têm marcado as sociedades contemporâneas atuais.
This report is the result of the Supervised Teaching Practice (PES), of the Master's Degree in Geography Teaching in the third Cycle of Basic Education and in Secondary Education at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, for the award of the master's degree. The Supervised Teaching Practice took place at Escola Secundária Severim de Faria – Évora, under the guidance of Professor Fernando Miguel Proença de Almeida Santana, Geography teacher at the Grouping of Basic and Secondary Schools Severim de Faria – Évora, during the academic year 2022/ 2023. The topic covered in this report focuses on the contribution of using WebGIS, as essential platforms in the study of Geography, in the third cycle of basic education. The aim of developing this work was to enumerate aspects in which the uses of WebGIS are crucial for understanding geographic phenomena. Technological advancement and revolution have marked current contemporary societies. The use and dependence on these means are systematically present in the daily life of each citizen. In a school environment and within the classroom it is no different, technology is now used as a means of supporting teachers and students. From the use of PowerPoint, interactive whiteboards, or digital manuals, to other more complex platforms, technology is crucial in the school environment. In addition to these tools being very useful, when used correctly in the classroom, several authors indicate that with their use students become more motivated and involved, both in classes and in subjects. Geography is the science that depends heavily on these platforms for a better understanding of geographic knowledge. Geographic Information Systems, when made available on web platforms called WebGIS, free of charge and open to all individuals, are revolutionary platforms for the multi-scale visualization of phenomena and for a better understanding of geographic knowledge. When correctly used in a school context, these platforms are crucial for students to understand and visualize phenomena, as well as feeling motivated when learning Geography, while for the teacher, they are tools to help in designing and planning classes. Thus, these platforms were used throughout the Supervised Teaching Practice, and served as a theme for the completion of the report presented.
