Nas últimas décadas, o debate sobre igualdade de género tem ganhado destaque, especialmente, em países comprometidos com os princípios democráticos. No cenário político, surgiram propostas e medidas para reduzir disparidades numéricas entre homens e mulheres parlamentares, ao evidenciar as dificuldades enfrentadas
pelas mulheres para ocupar cargos eletivos. No entanto, os resultados eleitorais ainda não refletem plenamente essa meta e destacam a persistência de desafios na busca por uma representação equitativa. Além da disparidade numérica, as mulheres que alcançam o poder enfrentam obstáculos significativos, muitas vezes associados à sua identidade de género. Por isso, esta dissertação enfatiza a necessidade de compreender
a violência política de género. Identificando-a como um obstáculo à participação equitativa das mulheres na esfera política. Assim, evidencia a importância de verificar empiricamente a existência dessa violência, que visa excluir as mulheres do cenário político, destacando a escassez de estudos sobre a temática no contexto social e académico português. O trabalho propõe a investigação da violência política de género contra as parlamentares em Portugal e formula questões específicas acerca da existência, tipos e impacto dessa violência. A metodologia qualitativa é delineada e abrange entrevistas confidenciais com deputadas do Partido Socialista. Compreende uma análise acerca da violência política de género no contexto português e aborda a
representatividade feminina na política, os desafios enfrentados pelas mulheres, bem como, a urgência do reconhecimento e enfrentamento a esta forma de violência.
In recent decades, the debate on gender equality has gained prominence, especially in countries committed to democratic principles. In the political landscape, proposals and measures have emerged to reduce numerical disparities between male and female parliamentarians, shedding light on the challenges faced by women in securing elective positions. However, electoral outcomes still do not fully mirror this objective, underscoring the persistence of challenges in achieving equitable representation. Beyond numerical disparities, women attaining power encounter significant obstacles, often tied to their gender identity. Therefore, this dissertation underscores the imperative to comprehend gender-based political violence, recognizing it as a hindrance to women's equitable participation in the political sphere. It highlights the importance of empirically verifying the existence of this violence, aimed at excluding women from the political stage, emphasizing the scarcity of studies on the subject in the Portuguese social and academic context. The work proposes an investigation into gender-based political violence against parliamentarians in Portugal, formulating specific questions regarding the existence, types, and impact of this violence. The qualitative methodology is outlined, encompassing confidential interviews with members of the Socialist Party. It involves an analysis of gender-based political violence in the Portuguese context, addressing female representation in politics, the challenges faced by women, as well as the urgency of recognizing and confronting this form of violence.
