Com o presente trabalho pretendemos trazer à evidência relatos de viajantes que estiveram em Lisboa, na transição da Idade Média para a Era Moderna, mais concretamente entre 1451 e 1571, articulando as suas narrativas sobre a cidade com o panorama artístico coevo, nomeadamente no que concerne o Urbanismo, a Arquitetura e as Artes Decorativas. Através da análise destes documentos, procuraremos um melhor entendimento da cidade e do seu crescimento, do modo como se estruturava, dos edifícios e dos seus programas construtivos, bem como da sua habitabilidade. Numa primeira parte será feito o esclarecimento de alguns conceitos chave para a compreensão da articulação e reflexão realizadas, bem como o método utilizado para a sua realização. Numa segunda parte, empreenderemos o confronto dos relatos de viagem com crónicas e outra bibliografia da especialidade de modo a complementar a informação sobre a cidade, a sua organização e dimensão, as diferentes áreas de desenvolvimento urbano, bem como o seu edificado, procurando um melhor entendimento do modo de construção e do desenvolvimento de espaços de habitação.
With this dissertation we want to bring to evidence the travel reports from visitors of Lisbon during the transition between the Middle Ages and the Modern Age, more exactly between 1451 and 1571, by articulating the narratives of foreigners written about the city with the artistic panorama, namely as far urbanism, architecture and decorative arts are concerned. Through the analysis of these documents, we will look for a better understanding of the city and its growth, how it was structured, of its buildings and their constructive programs, as well as its habitability. On the first part there will be made the clarification and explanation of some key concepts and the used method, for a better understanding of the articulation and reflection made on the second part, which consists of the confrontation of the travel reports with chronicles and specific bibliography of this field of knowledge in order to complement the known information about the city, its organization and dimension, the different areas of urban development, as well as its buildings, construction methods and the development and composition of housing spaces.
