The master's thesis titled "Land Use and Fire Regimes Between 1975 and 2019, at the Parish Scale: Peravelha, Aldeia de Nacomba and Ariz, Ariz and Nacomba (Moimenta da Beira), and Alferce (Monchique)" analyzes land use and fire regimes in two distinct regions of Portugal o a period of 44 years. The main research objective is to understand the relationship between land use in these áreas and patterns of forest fires that occurred between 1975 and 2019. To achieve this goal, geospatial data on land use and fire occurrences in the studied parishes were collected, compiled, and analyzed using a geographic information system (GIS) and ArcGIS software. Factors such as the occupation of forested spaces, shrublands, agricultural áreas, and fire incidents were considered. As a result, a set of cartography was generated that reflects the land use patterns and fire regime. The analysis of the study áreas demonstrates that most of the áreas affected by fires consist of forests and shrublands, with some agricultural áreas also affected. The evolution of land use and occupation is remarkable, with distinct trends between the áreas. While the percentage of forest co decreases and shrublands increase in the parish of Alferce, the opposite occurs in the parish of Peravelha, Aldeia de Nacomba, and Ariz, with an increase in forested áreas and a decrease in shrublands. In both áreas, agricultural áreas decrease. Remarkably, in the study áreas, the zones with a lower probability of fire are pasturelands, agroforestry surfaces with cork oak, and artificialized territories.
