O presente relatório é referente ao estágio realizado no Serviço de Arqueologia da Câmara Municipal de Silves. Nele são descritas as tarefas realizadas no decorrer da intervenção arqueológica no Bairro do Progresso, situado na zona sudoeste da cidade. Além da estratégia da intervenção arqueológica são também abordadas as evidências identificadas, bem como efetuada a interpretação das várias estruturas tanto ao nível funcional como cronológico. O Bairro do Progresso como alvo de estudo ao longo do estágio, evidenciou-se como um local com elevado potencial arqueológico, sendo nele reconhecidas antigas estruturas correspondentes a atividade fabril do século XX. Nele detetaram-se também vestígios urbanísticos do período medieval, correspondendo aquele espaço ao limite ocidental da antiga Xilb islâmica.
This report refers to the internship carried out at Silves Council Archaeology Department. It describes the tasks carried out during archaeological intervention in Bairro do Progresso, located in the southwest of the city. In additon to the archaeological intervention strategy, the evidence identified is also discussed, as well as the interpretation of the various structures, both functionally and chronologically. The Bairro do Progresso, which was the target of study throughout the internship, proved to be a site with high archaeological potential, where old structures correspondig to 20th century factory activities were recognized. Urban remains from the medieval period were also detected, corresponding to the western boundary of the old islamic Xilb.
