This dissertation promises to examine how the Transhumanist philosophy promotes the ethical use of science to improve the overall quality of life for humanity, as illustrated by Science Fiction Utopias. For this purpose, three literary works were chosen, such as Charles Stross’s Accelerando (2005), Cory Doctorow’s Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom (2003), Zoltan Istvan’s The Transhumanist Wager (2013), and finally, the videogame Bioshock (2007) by Irrational Games. Each of these depicts a technologically advanced Utopia, which encourages the ethical use of science to improve the general life quality of its inhabitants. Each depiction is unique and showcases the diversity of ideological perspectives inherent to Transhumanism. This analysis allows us to conclude that although there is no singular Utopia that can meet the needs of every human being, these scenarios reinforce the need for a more nuanced discussion about how we can use science to shape the best possible future for Humanity.
