The following case study focuses on the New Space Economy, with an emphasis on the Finnish
start-up ICEYE. ICEYE’s technology is based on Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellites,
which are used to collect data and images of the Earth’s surface. The case study presents the
progress made by the company throughout the years, including funding raised and its technology
development; it also explores the challenges faced by the company and its future trajectory. This
case study provides teaching notes that includes literature background, the nature of the case, and
general guidelines to drive a class discussion.
