This paper intends to explore the agricultural cooperatives topic and its impact on smallholder
farmers in developing countries. A consultancy project for Pakka Foundation demanded
exhaustive research on the cashew supply chain in Mozambique to analyze the possible
commercialization of organic and fair-trade certified cashew in this country. The insights
gathered during the internship suggested agricultural cooperatives as a relevant topic that could
positively impact the smallholders’ welfare and business activity. Hence, this paper explores
this hypothesis, while designing an agricultural cooperative model for cashew in Mozambique.
