While the business project developed risk mitigation strategies to improve the supplier selection
of the ABB group, this work project focuses on supplier monitoring. Specifically, supplier
monitoring practices are analyzed to create transparency and promote mutually beneficial long term manufacturer-supplier relationships. For this purpose, the monitoring methodology of a
subsidiary of ABB was analyzed to optimize the risk mitigation efforts of their supplier base.
While supply chain researchers recommend a multi-criteria risk assessment, this work found
that the manufacturer in this case only considered its dependence on its suppliers and their
financial health and disregarded other factor.
