Resumo(s)
The COVID-19 pandemic has triggered several challenges and it was no different for the
microfinance sector. However, although in Cape Verde this sector is no stranger to difficult
times, the COVID-19 crisis was different. This part of the project focus in understating how
the restrictions implemented in the country affected the stakeholders of the sector. Using the
qualitative data collected during our field trip, we seek to understand the impact of the
pandemic on MFIs and microcredit beneficiaries, and the institutional response to the crisis of
all stakeholders. We also address the current key challenges for MFIs and microcredit
beneficiaries. We suggest that it will be necessary to overcome the mismanagement and lack
of quantitative data that MFIs have in their possession to obtain a more accurate result of the
real impact of the pandemic on the sector.
