Resumo(s)
Research shows that female start up teams are often more successful than their male peers but
receive a significantly smaller share of funding. This thesis aims at exploring gender equality
and national culture and their impact on female entrepreneurship in Europe. In regressions
using Hofstede’s dimensions theory of national culture, the dimensions masculinity,
uncertainty avoidance and long term orientation showed statistically significant negative
correlation with the share of funded start up teams that are all-female. Further, a positive
relation between gender equality, as well as a negative relation between the gender pay gap
and the female share of funded start ups is suggested.
