Cruzamentos Espirituais nos escritos da Beat Generation

Esta dissertação pretende argumentar a ideia de uma visão espiritual nos escritos da Beat Generation. Esta ideia provém não só do nome da própria ‘geração’, que vem do latim beatum que significa feliz ou bem-aventurado; mas também das experiências espirituais e por vezes místicas que os autores passaram na sua vida. Tendo crescendo em diferentes contextos espirituais; católico, judeu e protestante; os autores percorreram um caminho que os levou à descoberta do budismo e assim de um caminho espiritual interior que os poderia conduzir a uma vida melhor e mais feliz (beatum). A dissertação pretende estudar, também, uma intertextualidade entre o budismo e o cristianismo.
This dissertation aims to discuss the idea of a spiritual vision in the writings of the beat generation. This idea not only comes from the name of the generation itself, that comes from the latin beatum, that means joyful; but also forms the spiritual and sometimes mystic experiences that the writers went through in their lifetime. Having been raised in different spiritual environments: catholic, jew, protestant and agnostic if not atheist, the authors discovered a path that led them to buddhism and zen buddhism, this path being a spiritual and interior path that led them to a search for a better and happier – beatum – life. This dissertation also aims to study the intertextuality between buddhism and christianity.
