This dissertation is the arrival point of a long and not bump-free journey, during which I have thought about abandoning the ship and giving up the challenge at least once per week. If I did not, it is in large part because of the extraordinary people who accompanied me, guided me and believed in me along the way. I would like to thank my supervisors, Professor Santucci de Magistris from LUISS Guido Carli University, and Professor Andrè Silva from NOVA School of Business and Economics, for the supportandfor teaching me the beautiful world of econometrics and macroeconomics.
