Although the specificities of televised journalism during the pandemic period have been widely studied over the past two years (Freitas et.al., 2021; Ferreira, 2020; Liu & Liu, 2020), it is still important to understand how this translated the apparent transformation of informative spaces, now focused on performative acts by the presenter, who was before seen as a neutral entity, impartial and seeking to relay information without any sort of opinion or revealing any type of expression. Is it right to say that the pandemic period saw the rise of a more âhumaneâ journalist? What this investigation proposes is a formal classification of the speech acts broadcasted in the nightly newscast during the pandemic. To perform this classification, it is equally important to understand the relationship between society and its media systems during this period, given the increased urgency for information. In the end, it is expected that this investigation can contribute towards this theme with a categorization of telejournalism during the pandemic, as well as an ample understanding of the role that the newscast presenter had â whether voluntarily or involuntarily â in a period of growing uncertainty and ambiguity. We also seek to enrich the discussion surrounding what this period meant for the Journalistic practice and its social perception in Portugal.
