Património da Música Militar em Portugal: O caso da Banda da Armada propõe uma leitura patrimonial e identitária da mais antiga Banda das Forças Armadas, tendo como objetivos específicos: 1) contextualizar a Banda da Armada na Comissão Cultural de Marinha; 2) demonstrar a abrangência nacional da Banda da Armada quanto à sua constituição e raio de ação; 3) analisar de que forma a Banda da Armada se relaciona com o movimento filarmónico; 4) divulgar a história, orgânica e identidade da Banda da Armada e 5) analisar as suas dimensões patrimoniais. A Banda da Armada, que integra a Marinha Portuguesa chama a si a identidade da instituição que a alberga, do panorama musical português, do seu tipo de agrupamento musical, bem como símbolos da História e Cultura de Portugal, num conjunto de fatores que lhe auferem valor artístico e histórico Os valores e identidade da Banda da Armada encontram uma base sólida na sua história, organização, missão, competências, contextos e repertório, bem como no perfil dos seus militares, na sua presença no território nacional e na forma como se relaciona com o movimento filarmónico. Estes fatores, por permitirem a realização de uma leitura patrimonial, constituem a base de organização desta dissertação. Assim, por meio de consulta e análise bibliográfica e documental associada a Trabalho de Campo consubstanciado em Registos de Observação e realização de entrevistas, foi possível compreender como pode ser reconhecida como Património e Identidade a mais antiga Banda das Forças Armadas Portuguesas, a Banda da Armada. Tal reconhecimento só se manifesta, assim, possível pela visita e revisita aos supramencionados pilares desta dissertação, bem como por um efetivo esforço e ação por parte da Marinha portuguesa no sentido do estudo, preservação e divulgação da Banda da Armada junto da comunidade dos militares da Marinha e da sociedade em geral, promovendo assim um generalizado conhecimento e reconhecimento, com consequente valorização deste agrupamento musical militar.
Heritage of Military Music in Portugal: The case of Portuguese Navy Band proposes a heritage and identity reading of the oldest Band of Armed Forces, with specific objetives: 1) contextualize the Portuguese Navy Band in the Cultural Commission of the Navy; 2) demonstrate the national scope of the Portuguese Navy Band in terms of its constitution and range of action; 3) assay how Portuguese Navy band relates to the philharmonic movement; 4) disclose the history, organization and identity of Portuguese Navy Band and 5) demonstrate its heritage dimensions. The Portuguese Navy Band, which is part of the Portuguese Navy, calls itself the identity of the institution that houses it, of the Portuguese music scene, of its type of musical grouping, as well as symbols of the History and Culture of Portugal, in a set of factors that given it artistic and historical value. The values and identity of Portuguese Navy Band find a solid basis in its history, organization, mission, skills, contexts, and repertoire, as well as in the profile of its soldiers, in its presence in the national territory and in the way it relates to the philharmonic movement. These factors, by allowing the realization of a heritage reading, constitute the basis of organization of this dissertation. Thus, through the consulation and bibliographic and documentary analysis, associated with the Field Work with Observation Records and conducting interviews, it was possible tu understand how the oldest Band of the Portuguese Armed Forces, the Portuguese Navy Band, can be recognized as Heritage and Identity. This recognition is only possible by visiting and revisiting the aforementioned pillars of this dissertation, as well as by and effective effort and action on the part of the Portuguese Navy towards the study, preservation and dissemination of Portuguese navy Band with the Navy’s military community and society in general, thus promoting a generalized knowledge and recognition with consequent appreciation of this military musical group.
