The EV industry is moving with incredible speed, some companies reaching astonishing valuations in the financial markets. At the same time, successful research and development of new battery technologies has the potential to challenge current winners of the EV revolution and equally provide new opportunities for laggards. This paper aims to introduce the EV industry, outline the current status quo, and provide a basis for a regression model to evaluate which factors investors value in EV players. In a second part, the paper finds no consistent evidence in event studies that an advancement in battery technology influences the share prices of automotive manufacturers.
