D. António de Noronha, filho segundo do 1º marquês de Vila Real, foi um fidalgo português, nascido por volta da década de 1460, que, por meio do serviço prestado à Coroa em terras magrebinas, nas quais esteve, por exemplo, como capitão de Ceuta, e na corte régia, onde desempenhara, no reinado de D. Manuel, a dignidade de escrivão da puridade, alcançou um lugar cimeiro na sociedade portuguesa da altura. O corolário deste percurso foi atingido, nos tempos do Piedoso, com a concessão do título condal da vila de Linhares, em 1525. Dessa forma, por meio de um conjunto vasto de fontes, o trabalho aqui exposto pretende analisar o percurso sociopolítico de D. António de Noronha, entre os séculos XV e XVI, e os instrumentos por ele utilizados para construir e consolidar a Casa de Linhares como um dos grandes poderes do reino luso.

During his lifetime he had served the Crown in Maghreb lands as captain of Ceuta and in the royal court he had played the dignity of scribe of purity. Through these services, he had reached a high place in Portuguese society at the time, being awarded by the Piedoso with the title of earl of Linhares. Therefore, through extensive research, the work presented intends to analyze the sociopolitical trajectory of D. António de Noronha between the 15th and 16th centuries and the tools he used to build and consolidate the House of Linhares as one of the great powers of the Portuguese kingdom.
