In the present dissertation, the main character is the game and that which surrounds it. We aim to reflect on the game as a creative instructional material in Portuguese as a foreign language (PFL) classes, focusing on the teaching of grammar, vocabulary, and culture. To this end we divided the paper into three chapters. The first focuses on creativity and teaching materials, addressing the privileged place the textbook occupies and the importance of authentic materials. The role of the teacher and the student, and the process of producing teaching materials are also objects of analysis. Still in the theoretical framework, the second chapter is dedicated to the game and analyses this material in the educational context, especially in adult and foreign languages teaching. We end the chapter by describing the process of producing foreign language games and, specifically, a game designed by the author of this dissertation. In the third chapter, we present an empirical study in which the previously mentioned game was put into practice. We make a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the results, articulating them with the theoretical foundations. We end with some considerations and suggestions aimed at continuing the study of the game as a creative didactic material in the teaching of PFL.
