This study aims to provide an overview of the two inherent markets for air quality measurement: outdoor air and indoor air; and their future, from a Speciality Gases consumption perspective within the Southwestern European territory. In addition, the goal is to assess Air Liquide's performance in the involved entities and in the Research and Analysis (R&A) market. This market study provides a cross-sectional vision of the air quality regulation, assesses the analytical techniques used and the individual needs in terms of gases. It was concluded that, for outdoor air, there will only be a change in regulation in 2022, while for indoor air, only France has specific legislation, and no regulation is expected to come into force in other countries. Additionally, the study features a stakeholder analysis, comprising a total of 1,140 entities, including air quality monitoring networks and national organizations from the four SWE Cluster countries, targeted on analytical techniques laboratories and air quality analysis laboratories that require specialty gas usage. All things considered, calculations revealed that Air Liquide's (AL) penetration rate was 26%, 29%, 40%, and 28%, for Portugal, Spain, France, and Italy, respectively. France stood out as the best-performing country in outdoor and indoor markets due to a broader range of exclusive customers than the Iberian and Italian markets. Moreover, the outdoor market represents around 1 million euros while the indoor market represents less than 0.5 million euros, both in total for SWE Cluster. Subsequently, the market share was estimated, representing less than 50% in outdoor and more than 40% in indoor, in total for SWE Cluster. Finally, the turnover evolution in both markets between the years 2018-2020 was analysed. As a result, stable growth of AL sales volume for outdoor and an increase for indoor was evidenced. Based on this data, five different scenarios were proposed for the outdoor market forecasting: two scenarios based on past sales volume evolution and three scenarios where one assumes stability until 2025; another, the mandatory measurement of two pollutants and another, future threats to the market. On the other hand, for the indoor market, four scenarios were forecasted: two of them based on the registered sales and two others built through the future legislative and market threats. These forecasts result in possible changes for AL business volume, with growth or reduction in the outdoor market between -7.5% and 2.5% for Iberia, -1%, and 10% for France and Italy until 2025. In indoor between -1% and 8%, -1% and 7% and -1% and 3%, respectively, for the Iberian, French, and Italian markets.
