Esta dissertação tem como objectivo estudar as tensões e os limites da representação na obra de João Guimarães Rosa. A linguagem, como lugar conceptual e sistémico, oferece resistência ao que é indefinido, mas através de Rosa ela serve de espaço para representar, ou dar lugar, a um limite além-palavra. No primeiro capítulo será abordada a posição estético-política do autor, tendo em conta a necessidade da linguagem se renovar para dar lugar à heterogeneidade e ao outro. De seguida são analisados os contos “Cara-de-Bronze” e “Meu tio o Iauaretê” pela encenação da irrepresentabilidade no centro da escrita. Os contos serão um ponto de partida para uma análise do romance Grande Sertão: Veredas. A palavra, aqui, sendo acolhedora de uma alteridade para sempre indefinida, torna-se espaço do vazio, fundadora ela mesma de uma indefinição. É assim representado o outro, pela presença da sua ausência na escrita.
The objective of this dissertation is to study the tensions and limits of representation in the works of João Guimarães Rosa. Language, as a conceptual and systemic place, offers resistance to what is indefinite, but through Rosa serves as a space of representation of a limit beyond discourse. On the first chapter we will discuss the aesthetic and political position of the author, minding the necessity of language to renovate itself so it can give a voice to heterogeneity and the other. Afterwards, the short stories “Cara-de-Bronze” and “Meu tio o Iauaretê” will be analyzed through the presence of the irrepresentable at the center of the text. These short stories will be a starting point to analyze the novel Grande Sertão: Veredas. In this novel language welcomes an always indefinite alterity. It becomes a space of emptiness, founder of the indefinite itself. This way the representation of the other is possible, through its present absence on the text.
