A paisagem de Lisboa e seus numerosos guindastes dividem o protagonismo nesta dissertação, traçando um paralelo inusitado. Alguns termos e ideias em torno da noção de paisagem abrem caminhos – controversos ou não – para pensarmos a imagem urbana em sua especificidade. Na mesma medida, busca-se, na metodologia de Kevin Lynch, ferramentas para a interpretação da imagem da cidade. Faz-se também necessário um breve mergulho na história da Lisboa moderna, quando a arquitetura do ferro encontrou similaridade estética com os guindastes. Por fim, os guindastes recebem uma atenção mais exclusiva quando partimos para análises específicas de casos em que suscitam significados variados de acordo com seu contexto atual, significados esses que circundam entre a simbologia e a literalidade de uma cidade em constante (re)construção.
Lisbon´s landscape and its numerous cranes shares the leading role in this dissertation, drawing an unusual parallel. Some terms and ideas around landscape´s notion opens paths - controversial or not - to think about the urban image in its specificity. To the same extent, Kevin Lynch's methodology seeks tools for the interpretation of the city's image. When iron´s architecture founds aesthetic similarity with the crane, a brief dive into the history of modern Lisbon is also necessary. Finally, a more exclusive attention is provided to cranes, as soon as we make specific analyzes of cases in which they raise diferent meanings according to their current context, meanings that surround between the symbolism and the literalness of a city that is constantitly (re)building.
