O presente Trabalho de Projeto tem como principal objetivo aplicar conhecimentos e competências adquiridos durante a componente letiva do Mestrado em Tradução, na Área de Especialização em Inglês, no sentido de contribuir para o aprofundamento de domínios, no âmbito dos Estudos de Tradução, ainda pouco desenvolvidos em Portugal – a adaptação e a tradução de música. Assim, consiste na realização de uma breve adaptação do musical The Phantom of the Opera para o português europeu e, posteriormente, na identificação e comentário das dificuldades enfrentadas pela tradutora. Também é feita uma contextualização do teatro musical em Portugal e exploram-se os conceitos anteriormente mencionados.
The goal of this Project is to apply the knowledge and expertise acquired during the study programme of the Masters in Translation (English) in order to contribute to the further development of areas in Translation Studies that are still underresearched in Portugal – adaptation and the translation of music. Thus, this project consists in a brief adaptation of the musical The Phantom of the Opera into European Portuguese, followed by the identification and analysis of the difficulties faced by the translator. A contextualization of musical theatre in Portugal is also provided, together with the study of the translation concepts previously mentioned.
