This research proposes a study on the central notion/practice in Art as a Vehicle by Jerzy Grotowski: the work on oneself. In order to broaden the understanding of this notion, some interlocutions are stablished with literature and philosophy, in addition to addressing the notion of organicity – a fundamental notion in the Grotowskian work on oneself. The author also draws on his pedagogical practices and in his experiences with the actors and directors Alain Alberganti, François Kahn and Mário Biagini of the Workcenter of Jerzy Grotowski and Thomas Richards, for whom the theater is a vehicle of a work on oneself, to analyze and discuss the main elements of this notion/practice. The examples collected from specific situations experienced in these meetings often contribute to anchoring language in the experience and give support to greater clarity on the understanding of these elements and notions.
