Sub-SaharanAfrica(SSA)isthegloballeaderinmobile-moneyinnovation,adoptionandusage.However,itisalsooneoftheregionswiththelargestunbankedpopulation,sotherearestillmanypeopletoserve.Digitaltechnologiesmayreducethispopulationbypartneringwithincumbentfinancialservices,helpinginachievingtheWorldBank’sgoaloffullfinancialinclusionby2020,bycreatingnewdigitalproductsthattrulysolvethepoorestpopulations’problems.FintechmayleveragethewidespreadsmartphoneadoptiontoofferfinancialservicesinSub-SaharanAfrica.However,governmentsmustreducebarrierstoimprovefinancialinclusionthrougheconomicdigitalization.
