Resumo(s)
This paper’s goal is to calculate the level and quality of corporate governance in
Portugal and to analyse if there is interlocking in Portugal. Data concerning the
(non)compliance of the recommendations (set by the Portuguese authority) was
gathered from the 250 biggest companies in Portugal and listed companies (from 2003
to 2005). Information about the board of directors of those companies was also
collected to see whether there is the tradition of sitting in several boards (interlock). The
results were clear: no interlocking exists (except among companies from same groups)
and the level of corporate governance in Portugal has been increasing.
