In 2022, Satya Nadella, Satya Nadella, faced a crucial decision: whether to approve the largest acquisition in the company’s history and acquire Activision Blizzard in a deal that could reshape Microsoft’s role in the global gaming market. This study examines the strategic rationale behind the proposed acquisition and explores how IP plays a critical role in companies’ strategies. Relying on frameworks, this case highlights the relationship between potential sustainable competitive advantage and risk management. Students are encouraged to assess the possible benefits and challenges of the acquisition, ultimately reflecting on the importance of balancing financial analysis with strategic reasoning.
