Através do romance Grades Vivas (1954), da escritora Celeste Andrade, investigamos como a autora ilustra as formas de violência contra as mulheres nas primeiras décadas do Estado Novo em Portugal, assim como buscamos perceber a pertinência da obra como um pensamento sobre essas violências. Nesse sentido, entendemos o romance como objecto representativo enquanto obra de uma autora que pensava o papel da
mulher na sociedade da época.
Para tanto, procuramos observar a mulher na sociedade estadonovista e identificar quais eram as violências que a cercavam como parte dessa sociedade, levantando as situações socioculturais correspondentes com aquelas representadas pela autora em seu livro.
Discutimos também sobre a publicação de Celeste Andrade no panorama da produção do grupo de autoras portuguesas da época e fizemos uma leitura do livro, a relacionar na narrativa a representação da mulher e das violências sofridas.
Dessa forma, passamos por diversos assuntos tocantes à violência contra a mulher explorados no romance, que vão desde as violências do corpo social e político, como as habitacionais, educacionais e laborais, ou temas como o casamento, as crianças ilegítimas e o aborto, a tratar também sobre a questão da cultura. Além disso, observou-se as violências do homem contra a mulher, a traçar um paralelo com aquelas sofridas
pela protagonista do romance, como a física, a sexual e a psicológica.
Through the novel Grades Vivas (1954), written by the author Celeste Andrade, we investigate how the author illustrates the forms of violence against women in the first decades of the New State in Portugal, as well as seek to detect the relevance of the novel as a reflection on these violences. As such, we understand the novel as a representative object as work of an author who thought the role of women in the society of that period. For this purpose, we seek to observe the women in the New State society and identify which were the violences that surrounded them as part of this society, raising the corresponding sociocultural situations with those represented by the author in her book. We also discuss about the publication of Celeste Andrade in the panorama of the production of the group of Portuguese authors of the time and we did a reading of the book to relate the representation of women and the suffered violences in the narrative. This way, we go through several touching matters on the violence against women explored in the novel, ranging from the violence of the governing and political body, such as housing, educational and labor, or themes such as marriage, illegitimate children, and abortion, to also deal with the issue of culture. In addition, it was observed the violence of the men against the women to trace a parallel with those suffered by the protagonist of the novel, such as the physical, sexual, and psychological violences.
