The European Union has placed great importance on energy policy, namelyon renewable energy, as it plans to phase out fossil fuel sources in the coming decades. However, the presence of renewable energy has been a constant since the beginning of themillennium. This thesis aims to assess whether the renewable energy policies introducedin the EU since 2000 were effective in increasing the deployment of these energy sources. We find evidence that feed-in policies (tariffs and premiums) and quotas had a significanteffect on renewable energy deployment, while tenders and tax incentives did not have asignificant effect.pt_PT
