Focusing on the concept of sort of people, a term used by Fernando Pessoa in the literary works of Maria José, Barão de Teive, and Bernardo Soares, this study pursues to highlight an idea of unity among these figures through an intertextual relation, as well as through existing supporting texts that function as an explanatory extension of the content. This analysis reinforces the robustness of these figures within Pessoa's corpus, refuting various critical interpretations that have regarded them over the past decades as mere Pessoa's remnants. The works of these three figures was produced in the final period of the author's life, at a time when he was concerned with how he would be received by posterity, a concern reflected in the construction of these narratives. This study also demonstrates how Fernando Pessoa conceives and organises his prose through an analysis of significant documents that revive the discussion about the specificities of literary text classifications. It is noted that in the later years of Pessoa's life, the prose genre evolved to match the aesthetic and artistic quality of poetry, which had been the preferred genre for the development of works attributed to various figures. Prose ceased to be exclusively used to short stories and to develop the dialogue among the main heteronyms, and instead became an aesthetic form that harbours literary personas, such as Maria José, Barão de Teive and Bernardo Soares. The prose project to which these three figures pertain differs significantly from other prose creations by Pessoa, given the emphasis on the robustness of the characters, revealing that in the final years of his life, Fernando Pessoa was working on a complex literary project with its own distinctive characteristics, which this study aims to analyse.
