We live in a time with an excess of information, people consume news daily. Despite this, society is increasingly confused, not knowing what is true or false. Social networks gained a new function: information platform. The clutter of news on the Web causes a number of problems, such as bubble filters and fake news. Journalism ends up being affected by these issues, because in addition to having to check the information that is shared on social networks, it also has to highlight the importance of news shared by reliable vehicles. Every day that passes we see more attacks on journalism, democracy and public institutions. The distrust in the smoothness of journalistic work is called into question. This dissertation aims to identify the main reasons that led Brazilian society to distrust the media. The work is divided into three major parts: credibility crisis in the postmodern world, with emphasis on the areas of communication and sociology; the post-truth era and the growth of fake news. The methodological approach consists of collecting and analyzing seven semi-structured interviews about the perception of journalistic work and the level of trust in the press. In the final part, the results and discussions about possible ways for journalism to restore its relationship with society are presented.
