Resumo(s)
Portugal, in comparison to other OECD countries, has lower levels of innovation activities. In this paper I start by analysing the importance and impact of innovation in economic growth and why it is seen, in the long run, as an engine of consistent economic growth. I will then focus, in more detail, on innovation activities in Portugal :its inputs and outputs as well as relevant differences to activities carried out by leading countries. Finally, after the identification of the differences, I suggest some policies that can increase innovation activities in Portugal
