The purpose of this project is to develop an Equity Research report about ZIM, with the objective of providing a final recommendation regarding its underlying stock. I developed the entire report together with my colleague José Lobato. In order to better understand our work, I recommend the reading of our consolidated report (annexed).ZIM is a global asset-light container liner shipping company with leadership positions in niche markets, operating a fleet of 87 vessels across five geographic trade zones –ranked 11thamong shipping carriers globally, controlling approximately 1,6% of the global shipping capacity, according to Alpha liner. Being inserted in the dynamic shipping industry and only being listed on the New York Stock Exchange since January 2021 are two factors that bring relevance and interest to this report. This first part of the report includes a general overview about the company itself, its main competitors, and the shipping industry. Moreover, the report includes a view around the company key elements regarding its strategy –digital oriented, asset-light model, and ESG commitment. The last chapter of this first part regards a risk analysis of the company in the form of two different scenario analyses.
