This study extends the literature on consequences of supervisor incivility in the workplace by
examining its relationship with uncertainty avoidance. Further, the effect of error aversion, as
a mediator, is tested in the relationship between supervisor incivility and error aversion as
well as in relation to intentions to resist future change. Using a time lagged design with three
measurement moments and a sample of 90 participants, I found partial support for my
hypotheses. Experienced supervisor incivility led to uncertainty avoidance one week later and,
after another week, to error aversion. However, I did not find a significant effect when it
comes to the relationship between supervisor incivility and intentions to resist future change
via the mediator uncertainty avoidance. Finally, I will discuss the findings in light of the
Uncertainty Avoidance Theory (UAT).
