| dc.description.abstract | This thesis explores the application of a Business Process Management (BPM) framework to optimize stock management in a padel sports club, responding to the operational challenges faced in a rapidly growing and increasingly competitive sports environment. By following the BPM lifecycle-specifically the phases of process identification, discovery, analysis, and redesign, the study aims to improve the efficiency, flexibility, and resilience of the club’s inventory operations. A detailed empirical study was conducted, including on-site observations, interviews, workshops, and simulation modeling using BPMN 2.0 tools. The initial “as-is” process was analyzed using qualitative techniques such as value-added and waste analysis, alongside quantitative process simulation to identify inefficiencies and performance bottlenecks. Findings revealed significant non-value-adding tasks, resource overutilization, and process vulnerabilities during staff shortages. A redesigned “to-be” process model was developed using heuristic redesign techniques, incorporating automation, task consolidation, and real-time stock reservation capabilities. Simulation of the redesigned process showed measurable improvements in cycle time, resource utilization, and process throughput. The project demonstrates the practical benefits of BPM for service-oriented organizations like sports clubs, particularly in improving operational effectiveness and customer service. It also highlights the importance of aligning process redesign efforts with digital tools to achieve scalable, data-driven improvements. The results offer a replicable methodology for similar organizations seeking to enhance inventory processes through structured BPM approaches. This work contributes both to the academic understanding of BPM in small-to-medium service contexts and to practical strategies for digital-driven process innovation. | pt_PT |
