Neste trabalho pretende-se refletir sobre o viajante que foi o autor José Maria Ferreira de Castro (1898-1974) nas crónicas dos livros: Pequenos Mundos e Velhas Civilizações (1937-1938) e A Volta ao Mundo (1940-1944). Ferreira de Castro como jornalista realizou um périplo pela Europa, Oriente e América, no século XX e anotou as impressões dos locais que visitara, no contexto histórico do fim da Primeira Guerra Mundial e do início da Segunda Guerra Mundial. O escritor conheceu ilhas, países pouco explorados na época, outros que foram o berço das civilizações e locais multiculturais. Tenciona-se analisar de que forma Castro conheceu uma outra Europa se deslocando para fora dela; experimentando as misturas das culturas vistas em lugares remotos. E como este viajante com seu olhar humanista crítico e europeu interpreta o Outro a partir dos choques culturais.
In this work it is intended to reflect on the traveler who was author José Maria Ferreira de Castro (1898-1974) in the Chronicles books: Pequenos Mundos e Velhas Civilizações (1937-1938) and A Volta ao Mundo (1940-1944). Ferreira de Castro as a journalist held a tour for Europe, East and America in the XX century and noted impressions of the places he visited, in the historical context of the end of World War I and the beginning of the Second World War. The writer met Islands, little-explored countries at the time, others that were the birthplace of civilizations and multicultural sites. It is intended to analyze how Castro knew another Europe moving out of it; Experiencing the blends of cultures seen in remote places. And as this traveler with his critical humanist gaze interprets the other from the cultural clashes
