| dc.description.abstract | The Law and Decision Literature is abundant of examples where Law Practitioners decision making is subject to deviations from rational course of action despite higher amounts of expertise: these deviations are often systematic consequences of mental shortcuts, such as heuristics and cognitive biases. This study reports the performances among Portuguese lawyers (n=84)from a survey addressing Cognitive Reflection, Propensity to biases emanating from the Availability, Representativeness and Confirmation heuristic, and Forecasting aptitude through means of Numeracy, Probabilistic Attitude and Thinking Style traits. The sample reveals better than average mean scores on Cognitive Reflection Test; performance in a “classic” predictor of confirmatory thinking (Was on Selection Task) revealed a tendency to the bias. Another finding is the relationship of seniority in the lawyers’ order and good performance in the Cognitive Reflection Test; “greener” lawyers demonstrated some better numeracy but less cognitive reflection. No significant correlations were found among forecasting predictors and the mentioned scores. | pt_PT |
