Resumo(s)
This project aims to explain the impact of liberalisation in the airline sector, specifically in the increasing growth of Low Cost airlines. LCC bring a new dynamism and intense competition to a sector where protectionism was dominant until the end of the 80s when the deregulation process started. LCC business model was carefully analysed and explained as the key success to the incredible growth rates of the passengers in the last decade. Analysis of the number of passengers carried by airline companies, operational returns of the main LCC and number of passengers at main and secondary airports were done, using data available on the last ten years. Prices charged by different companies were also analysed in 4 different routes in order to sustain the great ability of LCC to sustain them at low levels.
