The present research, within the interdisciplinary area of Women’s Studies, seeks to understand how school education (re)produces gender stereotypes. School, as a space of socialization, plays an important role in the construction of identities. It can be governed by emancipatory and equality values, promoting in the students a more correct vision of what it is to be a man and to be a woman, not limiting the vision that they have of themselves. Or, as an instance that is part of society, the school can incorporate within itself the gender stereotypes that are inserted in it, sometimes promoting unconsciously a sexist and stereotyped view of reality. This reproduction of gender stereotypes is found in the programs, in books, language and on the expectations of the students. This vision conditions identities, expectations, ways of acting, behaviors and social values, promoting a sexist view of reality. School can be a privileged space for change or a space that has repercussions on gender stereotypes, not breaking with the normative vision of gender.
